Carpentry
What is Carpentry?
Careers in the carpentry industry involve building, repairing, and installing structures made mostly from wood and other materials. Carpenters use tools and follow building plans to construct things like houses, floors, cabinets, doors, and furniture. They measure and cut materials carefully to make sure everything fits together safely and correctly. Carpenters often work on construction sites, in workshops, or on home improvement projects. This career requires problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of building safety. Carpentry is an important trade because carpenters help create the homes, schools, and buildings people use every day.
What do students in the Carpentry program at JRTI do?
Reading blueprints; measuring, cutting, joining, and finishing lumber; installing shingles; building cabinets; and estimating. Students often choose to work on extra projects when time permits. Examples of these projects include archery bows, trophy mounts, plaques, and jewelry boxes. Students learn
safety, material handling, framing floors, walls, roofs, stair construction, installing windows and doors, shingles, insulation, drywall, sidings, flooring, cabinets and counter tops.
