What is Welding?

Careers in the welding and fabricating industry involve joining and shaping metal to build strong structures and products. Welders use special tools and heat to melt and fuse metal pieces together, while fabricators cut, bend, and assemble metal parts to create finished items. People in this field help build things like bridges, buildings, vehicles, ships, and pipelines. They must follow safety rules and read plans or blueprints to make sure the metal pieces fit together correctly. Welding and fabricating are important skilled trades that help create many of the structures and machines used every day.

What do students in the Welding program at JRTI do?

Read blueprints. Measure, cut, bend, shape, and weld to join sheets, scraps, and tubing of various metals to fabricate parts for construction and equipment repair projects and jobs. Students practice steel fabrication and different types of welding including oxyacetylene, shielded metal arc, TIG, and MIG.
