What is Masonry?

Careers in the masonry industry involve building structures using materials like brick, stone, and concrete blocks. Masons use tools and mortar (a type of cement mixture) to place and secure these materials so they form strong walls, walkways, fireplaces, and buildings. They often follow construction plans to make sure structures are safe and built correctly. Masons may work on homes, schools, bridges, and other large projects. This career requires physical strength, careful measuring, and attention to detail. Masonry is an important trade because it helps create durable structures that can last for many years.

What do students in the Masonry program at JRTI do?

Lay brick, block, and stone, finish concrete, and set tile on live projects as well as practice projects. Students learn how to do job preparation and layout, laying masonry units to a line, building masonry leads, mixing mortar, cutting brick and block, and estimating.
