Automotive Technology
What do Automotive Technicians do?
A career as an automotive technician involves inspecting, repairing, and maintaining cars and trucks to keep them running safely and smoothly. Automotive technicians use tools and computer systems to find problems with engines, brakes, electrical systems, and other vehicle parts. They may change oil, replace worn parts, test batteries, and perform regular maintenance to help prevent bigger problems. Technicians must understand how different vehicle systems work and follow safety procedures while working with tools and equipment. This career is important because automotive technicians help keep vehicles reliable and safe for people to drive every day.
What do students in the Automotive Technology program at JRTI do?
The first year of the program focuses on theory and hands-on practice. During the second year, students are responsible for operating a live shop. With roles such as Technician and Shop Foreman, students diagnose problems and perform repairs on vehicles for real customers. Students practice
troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of the various components of all major automotive systems, including the engine, brakes, steering, and suspension systems.
