What do Diesel Technicians do?

A career as a diesel technician involves inspecting, repairing, and maintaining vehicles and equipment that run on diesel engines. Diesel technicians work on large machines such as trucks, buses, construction equipment, and farm machinery. They use special tools and computer systems to find problems, replace parts, and make sure engines run efficiently. Diesel technicians also perform regular maintenance like changing filters, checking fuel systems, and testing engine performance. This career requires problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of mechanical systems. Diesel technicians play an important role by keeping transportation and heavy equipment working safely and reliably.

What do students in the Diesel Technology program at JRTI do?

Students use a combination of online and classroom work to study diesel theory. In the shop, they learn the hands-on skills to apply the theory, and tune-up and troubleshoot various vehicles including trucks, construction, and farm equipment. They also practice identification, disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and rebuilding of all major components of a diesel engine.
