What is an HVAC Technician?

A career as an HVAC technician involves installing, repairing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems that control the temperature and air quality inside buildings. HVAC technicians work on equipment like furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ventilation systems in homes, schools, and businesses. They use tools to diagnose problems, replace parts, and make sure systems run safely and efficiently. This job requires knowledge of mechanical systems, problem-solving skills, and attention to safety. HVAC technicians play an important role in keeping people comfortable by providing warm air in the winter and cool air in the summer.

What do students in the HVAC Technician program at JRTI do?

Learn the theory of how the refrigeration cycle works.  Wire electrical boards.  Install a heat pump and connect line set, wiring, and ductwork.  Use a pressure temperature chart. Students learn electrical troubleshooting, soldering, brazing, fabricating ductwork, proper refrigerant recovery, charging and evacuation techniques, customer relations, and soft skills.
