What is an IT Technician?

An IT technician is a technology professional who helps keep computers and networks working properly. They install and repair computers, set up internet connections, and manage networks so people in a school or business can share information and communicate. IT technicians also help protect systems from hackers and viruses by using cybersecurity tools, updating software, and creating strong security rules. When something goes wrong with technology, they troubleshoot the problem and fix it so people can get back to work. Their job is important because many organizations depend on safe and reliable technology every day.

What do students in the Cybersecurity/Cisco program at JRTI do?

Students learn technology concepts including configuration, implementation, and troubleshooting. They model and analyze routing processes and practice their skills within simulated networks. Design, calculate, and apply subnet masks in IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Build an Ethernet network using routers and switches. Use Cisco command-line interface (CLI) commands to perform basic router and switch configurations. Utilize common network utilities to verify small network operations and analyze data traffic. Configure and troubleshoot basic operations of a small switched network. Configure and troubleshoot VLANs and inter-VLAN routing. Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot ACLs for IPv4 and IPv6.
